6:00 PM EDT Friday 12 July 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Nakina - Aroland - Pagwa At 6:00 PM EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain. This line of severe thunderstorms is located from 35 kilometres southwest of Mammamattawa to 55 kilometres northwest of Ranoke, moving southeast at 40 km/h. Hazard: 90 km/h wind gusts and nickel size hail. Locations impacted include: Mammamattawa. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. A hot airmass will arrive today. Daytime maximum temperatures are expected to be near 29 degrees Celsius with humidex values near 35. There will be little relief at night as minimum temperatures are expected to be near 18 degrees Celsius. A cooler airmass is expected to arrive Sunday night or Monday. Extreme heat can affect everyone?s health. Drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration. Reduce your heat risk. Schedule outdoor activities during the coolest parts of the day. Never leave people, particularly children, or pets inside a parked vehicle.
