Brief Description SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH
Detailed Description 2:26 PM ADT Thursday 18 July 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Grand Falls and Victoria County Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and heavy rain. Maximum rainfall rates: 15 to 25 mm/h, possibly higher in thunderstorms. Maximum wind gusts: 60 to 70 km/h. Locations: northwestern New Brunswick. Time span: ending later this evening. Remarks: Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon over portions of northwestern New Brunswick. Locally heavy rainfall and strong wind gusts may accompany these thunderstorms.. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
