Detailed Description 7:26 PM MDT Monday 22 July 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: M.D. of Greenview near Grande Cache Botten and Amundson At 7:26 PM MDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing strong wind gusts, nickel to ping pong ball size hail and heavy rain. These severe thunderstorms are located from 50 km southeast of Grovedale to 50 km east of Grande Cache and are moving to the north at 40 km/h. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. Overnight lows will remain warm, ranging from the mid-teens to low 20s, and will not provide much relief from the daytime heat. Cooler temperatures are expected to start moving into northwestern parts of the province starting tonight. Hot conditions may persist through much of the week for some parts of southern Alberta. Thick smoke in parts of the province may cause daytime highs to be a few degrees cooler than forecast over the coming days. The combination of heat and very poor air quality in smoke will increase the risk to your health. Residents of and visitors to the warned regions are advised to take the following precautions to protect themselves, their families and their neighbours: - Consider rescheduling outdoor activities to cooler hours of the day. - Take frequent breaks from the heat, spending time in cooled indoor spaces where possible. - Drink plenty of water and other non-alcoholic, non-caffeinated beverages to stay hydrated. - Check for your children or pets before you exit your vehicle. Do not leave any person or pet inside a closed vehicle, for any length of time. Monitor for symptoms of heat stroke or heat exhaustion, such as high body temperature, lack of sweat, confusion, fainting, and unconsciousness. Pay particular attention to individuals that can experience earlier or more severe effects from heat including infants, children, seniors, and individuals with pre-existing lung, heart, kidney, nervous system, mental health or diabetic conditions, outdoor workers, as well as those who are socially isolated. Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion. For more heat health advice, visit: albertahealthservices.ca/news/heat.aspx . Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ABstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #ABStorm .
