4:44 AM CDT Monday 26 August 2024 Wind Warning in effect for: Rankin Region including Whale Cove Strong northerly winds with gusts in of 100-110 km/h are possible today. A low pressure system moving into Hudson Bay will continue intensifying today, resulting in strong northerly winds across the Kivalliq. Winds will gradually increase this morning, before peaking in the early afternoon. Sustained winds of 70 km/h with gusts of 100 km/h likely by Monday afternoon. The strongest gusts are expected along the Hudson Bay coast and could reach 110 km/h. Winds will gradually taper off in the evening before diminishing overnight. Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Gusty winds can damage soft shelters, tents and awnings at outdoor events. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage. High winds may result in power outages and fallen tree branches.
