11:42 AM EDT Tuesday 4 June 2024 Heat Warning in effect for: Moosonee Temperatures are expected to reach at least 29 degrees Celsius combined with overnight lows near 18 degrees Celsius for the next 2 days. The first heat event of the season is expected to begin this afternoon and end Thursday morning. Peak temperatures in a few areas may reach as high as 33 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and can result in the Air Quality Health Index approaching the high risk category. The health risks are greater for older adults, infants and young children, pregnant people, people with physical and/or mental illnesses, and people with disabilities or mobility issues. Drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration. Reduce your heat risk. Schedule outdoor activities during the coolest parts of the day. Limit direct sun exposure. Shade yourself by wearing a wide-brimmed, breathable hat and/or an umbrella. When it?s hot, eat cool, light meals. Avoid using the oven. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
