Brief Description SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH
Detailed Description 4:01 PM NDT Monday 5 August 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Bay of Exploits Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing heavy rain. Potential rainfall rates: 25 mm per hour or higher. Locations: Buchans and the interior and northeastern Newfoundland. Time span: continuing until this evening. Remarks: Showers with isolated embedded thunderstorms have formed over parts of central Newfoundland and are moving to the east-northeast. Conditions remain favourable for these storms to become severe late this afternoon and this evening. Strong wind gusts are also possible. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
