| Detailed Description | * WHAT. Flooding caused by an ice jam is expected. * WHERE. Kuskokwim near Aniak To Lower Kalskag. * WHEN. Until noon AKDT Saturday. * IMPACTS. Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS. - The Kuskokwim River at Aniak has stopped as of this morning with bank to bank ice and minor flooding in low lying areas. The River Watch team observed a roughly 30 mile run of ice upstream of Aniak on April 30th, and intact ice closer to Upper and Lower Kalskag. As this run of ice continues downriver, there is potential for flooding and ice shoves. As this ice approaches stronger intact ice near Upper and Lower Kalskag, there is potential for ice jam flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include. Aniak, Upper Kalskag, Lower Kalskag - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood - If you live near or along the Kuskokwim River stay alert and be prepared to take action. |
