| Detailed Description | HLSLCH This product covers Southwest Louisiana and Southeast Texas **BERYL PRODUCING FLASH FLOODING AND TORNADOES OVER EASTERN TEXAS AND WESTERN LOUISIANA** NEW INFORMATION --------------- * CHANGES TO WATCHES AND WARNINGS: - None * CURRENT WATCHES AND WARNINGS: - A Storm Surge Warning and Tropical Storm Warning are in effect for Lower Jefferson - A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Hardin, Tyler, and Upper Jefferson * STORM INFORMATION: - About 130 miles north-northwest of Sabine Pass TX or about 100 miles northwest of Beaumont TX - 31.3N 95.1W - Storm Intensity 45 mph - Movement North-northeast or 25 degrees at 16 mph SITUATION OVERVIEW ------------------ Tropical Storm Beryl will continue moving to the northeast through northeast Texas and into southwest Arkansas tonight. Rain bands from Beryl will slowly move across southwest Louisiana and diminish into tonight. Scattered instances of heavy rainfall and isolated tornadoes will be possible with rain bands this evening. Elevated tides will continue tonight through early Tuesday morning. POTENTIAL IMPACTS ----------------- * FLOODING RAIN: Prepare for dangerous rainfall flooding having possible significant impacts across southwest Louisiana. Potential impacts include: - Moderate rainfall flooding may prompt several evacuations and rescues. - Rivers and tributaries may quickly become swollen with swifter currents and overspill their banks in a few places, especially in usually vulnerable spots. Small streams, creeks, canals, arroyos, and ditches overflow. - Flood waters can enter some structures or weaken foundations. Several places may experience expanded areas of rapid inundation at underpasses, low-lying spots, and poor drainage areas. Some streets and parking lots take on moving water as storm drains and retention ponds overflow. Driving conditions become hazardous. Some road and bridge closures. Prepare for locally hazardous rainfall flooding having possible limited impacts across southeast Texas. * TORNADOES: Prepare for a particularly dangerous tornado event having possible extensive impacts across southwest Louisiana. Potential impacts include: - The occurrence of numerous tornadoes can greatly hinder the execution of emergency plans during tropical events. - Many places may experience tornado damage with a few spots of immense destruction, power loss, and communications failures. - Locations could realize roof and wall failures of sturdy buildings with some being leveled, structures upon weak foundations blown away, mobile homes obliterated, large trees twisted and snapped with forested trees uprooted, vehicles lifted off the ground and thrown, and boats destroyed. Large and deadly projectiles can add to the toll. Prepare for a dangerous tornado event having possible limited to significant impacts across southeast Texas. * SURGE: Prepare for life-threatening surge having possible significant impacts across southern Jefferson County. Potential impacts in this area include: - Areas of inundation with storm surge flooding accentuated by waves. Damage to several buildings, mainly near the coast. - Sections of near-shore escape routes and secondary roads become weakened or washed out, especially in usually vulnerable low spots. - Major beach erosion with heavy surf breaching dunes. Strong and numerous rip currents. - Moderate damage to marinas, docks, boardwalks, and piers. Several small craft broken away from moorings, especially in unprotected anchorages. Also, prepare for locally hazardous surge having possible limited impacts across coastal southwest Louisiana. Elsewhere across Southwest Louisiana and Southeast Texas, little to no impact is anticipated. * WIND: Prepare for hazardous wind having possible limited impacts across Southeast Texas. Potential impacts in this area include: - Damage to porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Unsecured lightweight objects blown about. - Many large tree limbs broken off. A few trees snapped or uprooted, but with greater numbers in places where trees are shallow rooted. Some fences and roadway signs blown over. - A few roads impassable from debris, particularly within urban or heavily wooded places. Hazardous driving conditions on bridges and other elevated roadways. - Scattered power and communications outages. Elsewhere across Southwest Louisiana and Southeast Texas, little to no impact is anticipated. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS ---------------------------------- * EVACUATIONS: Follow the advice of local officials. * OTHER PREPAREDNESS INFORMATION: If you live in a place particularly vulnerable to flooding, such as near the ocean or a large inland lake, in a low-lying or poor drainage area, in a valley, or near an already swollen river, plan to move to safe shelter on higher ground. There is a threat from tornadoes with this storm. Have multiple ways to receive Tornado Warnings.
