| Detailed Description | 9:37 AM CDT Friday 10 May 2024 Winter Storm Watch in effect for: Arviat Strong spring storm to impact the Kivalliq on the weekend. Hazards: Freezing rain, heavy snow with up to 10 cm accumulation, strong wind gusts possibly in excess of 80 km/h. Timing: Overnight Friday into Saturday. Conditions improving Saturday evening. Remarks: A strong low pressure system approaching from the west will spread an area of freezing rain into Arviat on Saturday. The freezing rain will transition to heavy snow on Saturday afternoon. Strong winds will accompany the falling snow giving reduced visibilities in falling snow. Poor weather conditions may contribute to transportation delays. Avoid travel if possible. Winter storm watches are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
