Brief Description SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH
Detailed Description 11:35 PM EDT Thursday 11 July 2024 Heat Warning in effect for: Pikangikum - Poplar Hill - MacDowell A heat event is expected to persist into the weekend. A hot airmass has arrived over northwestern Ontario. Daytime maximum temperatures are expected to be near 30 degrees Celsius with humidex values near 35. There will be little relief during the overnight as minimum temperatures are expected to be near 19 degrees Celsius. A cooler airmass is expected to arrive Sunday night or Monday. Extreme heat can affect everyone?s health. Drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration. Reduce your heat risk. Schedule outdoor activities during the coolest parts of the day. Never leave people, particularly children, or pets inside a parked vehicle. Watches 12:11 AM EDT Friday 12 July 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Pikangikum - Poplar Hill - MacDowell Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts and damaging hail. Hazards: Nickel sized hail. Wind gusts of 90 km/h. Timing: Continuing into the overnight hours. Discussion: A line of thunderstorms is tracking over far-northwestern Ontario. The main threats will be up to nickel sized hail and strong wind gusts of up to 90 km/h. Very large hail can damage property, break windows, dent vehicles and cause serious injury. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
