7:11 PM EDT Friday 12 July 2024 Heat Warning in effect for: Nakina - Aroland - Pagwa A heat event will persist into this weekend. A hot airmass has moved into northern Ontario. Daytime maximum temperatures are expected to be near 29 degrees Celsius, with humidex values near 35. There will be little relief at night as minimum temperatures are expected to be near 18 degrees Celsius. A cooler airmass is expected to arrive Sunday night or Monday. Extreme heat can affect everyone?s health. Drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration. Reduce your heat risk. Schedule outdoor activities during the coolest parts of the day. Never leave people, particularly children, or pets inside a parked vehicle. Watches 7:38 PM EDT Friday 12 July 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Nakina - Aroland - Pagwa Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain. Timing: Continue into this evening Hazard: Wind gusts up to 90 km/h. Up to nickel size hail. Local heavy downpours. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
