| Detailed Description | * WHAT. Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible over recent wildfire burn scars which are highly vulnerable to runoff. * WHERE. A portion of central New Mexico, including the following area, South Central Mountains. * WHEN. Until 8 PM MDT this evening. * IMPACTS. Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS. - Slow-moving thunderstorms will be capable of producing heavy rainfall, with rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour. This, combined with already saturated grounds from rainfall earlier this week, could lead to excessive runoff and flash flooding below the recent wildfire burn scars surrounding Ruidoso. Just a quarter to half an inch of rainfall can result in considerable to catastrophic flash flooding and debris flows on these burn scars. - http://www.weather.gov/abq/EmergencyPrepFlood |
