Brief Description Blizzard Warning
Detailed Description Blizzard conditions with gusty winds and visibility frequently near zero in snow and blowing snow are expected or occurring. When: Thursday afternoon through to midday Friday Where: Dempster Highway, particularly near the Richardson Mountains Remarks: A ridge of high pressure over the Beaufort Sea, in conjunction with an approaching frontal system over northern Yukon, will lead to strong easterly winds along the Dempster Highway, near the Richardson Mountains. Easterly winds will strengthen to 50 km/h with gusts up to 70 km/h this evening, increasing further to 90 km/h gusting to 110 by Thursday afternoon. These strong winds, combined with snowfall from the frontal system, are expected to produce blizzard conditions with near zero visibility. Ahead of the blizzard?s onset Thursday afternoon, snow and increasing winds will already be causing blowing snow and reduced visibility starting tonight. While conditions will begin to improve by Friday afternoon as winds ease slightly, blowing snow and reduced visibility will likely persist into Friday night. A more significant improvement in visibility is expected by Saturday morning as both winds and snowfall diminish. ### Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Blizzard warnings are issued when widespread reduced visibilities of 400 metres or less are expected for at least 4 hours.
