2:28 AM EDT Saturday 13 July 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Red Lake - Woodland Caribou Park At 1:27 AM CDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain. This cluster of severe thunderstorms is located from 20 kilometres north of West English River Provincial Park to Separation Lake, moving southeast at 50 km/h. Hazard: Up to 90 km/h wind gusts. Up to nickel size hail. Locations impacted include: Grassy Narrows, West English River Provincial Park, Indian Lake, Ball Lake, Tide Lake, Maynard Lake, Big Canon Lake, Segise Lake and McIntosh. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Daytime maximum temperatures are expected to be near 30 degrees Celsius, with humidex values near 36. There will be little relief at night as minimum temperatures of 18 to 20 degrees Celsius are expected. A cooler airmass is expected to arrive on Sunday. Extreme heat can affect everyone?s health. Drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration. Reduce your heat risk. Schedule outdoor activities during the coolest parts of the day. Never leave people, particularly children, or pets inside a parked vehicle.
