11:15 PM EDT Friday 12 July 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Pikangikum - Poplar Hill - MacDowell At 10:14 PM CDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain. This cluster of severe thunderstorms is located from 12 kilometres north of Pringle Lake to 15 kilometres southeast of Peisk Lake, moving east at 60 km/h. Hazard: Up to 90 km/h wind gusts Up to nickel size hail. Locations impacted include: Musclow Lake, Sabourin Lake, Larus Lake, McCusker Lake, Murdock Lake, Knox Lake, Roderick Lake, Peisk Lake, Pikangikum Lake, Rathouse Lake, Kirkness Lake, Little Vermilion Lake, Berens Lake, Nungesser Lake and Pringle Lake. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Daytime maximum temperatures are expected to be near 30 degrees Celsius, with humidex values near 36. There will be little relief at night as minimum temperatures of 18 to 20 degrees Celsius are expected. A cooler airmass is expected to arrive on Sunday. Extreme heat can affect everyone?s health. Drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration. Reduce your heat risk. Schedule outdoor activities during the coolest parts of the day. Never leave people, particularly children, or pets inside a parked vehicle.
