| Detailed Description | 4:47 PM EDT Sunday 14 July 2024 Heat Warning in effect for: Timmins - Cochrane - Iroquois Falls A heat event will come to an end Monday morning. A humid airmass will continue to affect the area tonight before a cooler airmass arrives during Monday morning. Minimum temperatures on Monday morning will be near 18 degrees Celsius. Extreme heat can affect everyone?s health. Drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration. Reduce your heat risk. Schedule outdoor activities during the coolest parts of the day. Never leave people, particularly children, or pets inside a parked vehicle. Watches 9:13 PM EDT Sunday 14 July 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Timmins - Cochrane - Iroquois Falls Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and large hail. Hazards: Up to toonie sized hail. Wind gusts near 90 km/h. Timing: Continuing into this evening. Discussion: A line of thunderstorms over northeastern Ontario continues to track southeastward this evening. The strongest thunderstorms may be capable of producing toonie sized hail and wind gusts of 90 km/h. Thunderstorm intensity is expected to gradually weaken in the evening. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Locally heavy rain is also possible. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
