Brief Description Special Weather Statement
Detailed Description A strong low moving into western Alaska will bring rain and gusty winds to the Anchorage area this afternoon (Saturday) through Sunday. Southeasterly winds will increase this afternoon with rain beginning to fall by midday. Winds will be the strongest along the southern Hillside, with gusts of 40 to 60 mph expected, and over south and west Anchorage with gusts of 20 to 35 mph, with up to 50 mph possible. Overnight winds will become southerly and spread to the remainder of the bowl with gusts in the 25 to 40 mph range. Given the recent rainfall and additional rainfall of up to 1.5 inches, soils are well saturated, and when combined with gusty winds may lead to power outages and tree damage. There is some uncertainty in the southeasterly wind forecast tonight due to an additional low developing in the Gulf; however, there is high confidence in the gusty southerly winds come Sunday morning.
