Brief Description SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH
Detailed Description 7:05 AM EDT Tuesday 18 June 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Fort Frances - Emo - Rainy River Seine River Village - Mine Centre At 6:05 AM CDT (6:05 a.m. EST), Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing very strong wind gusts and heavy rain. This line of severe thunderstorms is located from 15 kilometres northwest of Otukamamoan Lake to Windy Point, moving northeast at 60 km/h. Hazard: 90 km/h wind gusts. Locations impacted include: Windy Point, Cuttle Lake and Otukamamoan Lake. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ONstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #ONStorm . For more information: ontario.ca/page/be-prepared-emergency . 5:26 AM EDT Tuesday 18 June 2024 Rainfall Warning in effect for: Seine River Village - Mine Centre Rain, at times heavy, is expected. Hazards: 50 to 80 mm of rain. Locally higher amounts possible. Timing: This morning through tonight. Discussion: A warm and moist airmass will likely bring significant rainfall today. Two rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected with the first occurring early this morning and the second occurring this afternoon through this evening. Areas that receive multiple thunderstorms or prolonged rainfall from slow moving thunderstorms may have the potential to exceed 80 mm locally. For information concerning flooding, please consult your local Conservation Authority or Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry office. Visit Ontario.ca/floods for the latest details. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Heavy rainfall in combination with other weather factors, such as hail, wind and lightning will make outdoor activities unsafe. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ONstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #ONStorm .
