6:12 PM ADT Friday 14 June 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Grand Falls and Victoria County At 6:11 PM ADT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing strong wind gusts and heavy rain. Maximum rainfall rates: 25 to 35 mm per hour in thunderstorms. Maximum wind gusts: up to 80 km/h in thunderstorms. Locations in the path include: Kincardine to east of Plaster Rock. Time span: continuing until later this evening. Remarks: A second line of severe thunderstorms is now moving into western New Brunswick. This line stretches from east of Plaster Rock to Kincardine and is moving east-northeast at 50 km/h. Torrential downpours and strong wind gusts are expected to accompany these thunderstorms. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Watches 6:05 PM ADT Friday 14 June 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Grand Falls and Victoria County Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and heavy rain. Potential rainfall rates: 25 mm per hour or higher in thunderstorms. Potential wind gusts: 70 to 90 km/h in thunderstorms. Locations: Northern, central, and western New Brunswick. Time span: continuing until late this evening. Remarks: A cold front moving across the province is bringing the threat of severe thunderstorms into this evening. Severe thunderstorms have developed in western New Brunswick and are forecast to move east into central and eastern New Brunswick as the evening progresses. The main threats with these storms will be locally heavy downpours, very strong wind gusts, and pea sized hail. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.
