Brief Description SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH
Detailed Description 3:23 PM EDT Sunday 25 August 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Pikangikum - Poplar Hill - MacDowell Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain. Hazards: Wind gusts of 90 to 110 km/h Torrential downpours producing up to 50 mm within a few hours Nickel to golf ball size hail Risk of tornadoes Timing: This afternoon and evening Discussion: Thunderstorms will continue eastward this afternoon, followed by a possible break in activity. Additional thunderstorm development may occur late this afternoon or this evening. These thunderstorms may be capable of very strong wind gusts, large hail, and heavy rain. A tornado cannot be ruled out. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
