| Detailed Description | 9:33 PM EDT Saturday 13 July 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Pikangikum - Poplar Hill - MacDowell At 8:33 PM CDT (9:33 p.m. EDT), Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing strong wind gusts, up to toonie size hail and torrential rain. This area of severe thunderstorms is located from 15 kilometres east of Berens Lake to 40 kilometres southwest of Cat Lake to 65 kilometres south of Big Trout Lake to 40 kilometres northwest of Opasquia Provincial Pa, moving east at 60 km/h. Hazard: Up to 90 km/h wind gusts. Up to nickel size hail. Torrential downpours with local rainfall amounts of 50 to 100 mm possible. Locations impacted include: Sandy Lake, Opasquia Provincial Park, MacDowell, McInnes Lake, Opasquia, Opasquia Lake, Kakapitam Lake, Margot Lake, North Spirit Lake, Goose Lake, Mamakwash Lake, Madden Lake, Southwest Lake, Niska Lake, Upper Goose Lake, McCreery Lake, MacDowell Lake, Pasateko Lake, Willis Lake and Whitelaw Lake. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Fast-moving water across a road can sweep a vehicle away. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
