Brief Description Air Quality Alert
Detailed Description The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has issued the following. WHAT. Air Quality Health Advisory for Wildfire Smoke. WHERE. Montrose County. Locations include, but are not limited to Montrose, Nucla, Naturita and West Vancorum. WHEN. 900 AM Sunday August 04 to 900 AM Monday August 05 IMPACTS. Smoke from the Bucktail wildfire, located approximately 5 miles northeast of Nucla in southern Montrose County will affect the advisory area on Sunday and into Monday. On Sunday afternoon and evening, periods of moderate to heavy smoke are possible in downwind areas, including portions of the Uncompahgre National Forest and Montrose. Thunderstorms are also possible on Sunday afternoon, and may produce gusty, erratic winds that can send smoke in any direction. During the overnight and early morning hours smoke will move toward lower terrain, affecting areas along Big Bucktail Creek and the San Miguel River, as well as the communities of Nucla, Naturita, and West Vancorum. HEALTH INFORMATION. Public Health Recommendations: If smoke is thick or becomes thick in your neighborhood you may want to remain indoors. This is especially true for those with heart disease, respiratory illnesses, the very young, and older adults. Consider limiting outdoor activity when moderate to heavy smoke is present. Consider relocating temporarily if smoke is present indoors and is making you ill. If visibility is less than 5 miles in smoke in your neighborhood, smoke has reached levels that are unhealthy.
