10:24 PM PDT Monday 22 July 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Fort Nelson At 10:23 PM MST, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking an area of severe thunderstorms capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain. The area of severe thunderstorms is currently near Sikanni Chief and Milligan Hills Provincial Park and are moving northwards at 50 km/h. It will impact communities along Highway 97 from Sikanni Chief to Prophet River as well as Milligan Hills Provincial Park and Ekwan Lake Protected Area for the next couple hours. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Very large hail can damage property, break windows, dent vehicles and cause serious injury. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road.
