| Detailed Description | 10:50 AM NDT Wednesday 10 July 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Bonavista North Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing heavy rain. Potential rainfall rates: 20 mm per hour or possibly higher in thunderstorms. Locations: parts of central and northeastern Newfoundland. Time span: this afternoon until this evening. Remarks: Showers at times heavy or scattered thundershowers are expected to develop this afternoon, with potential for the development of severe thunderstorms. Localized torrential rainfall may occur with these storms, if they develop. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Heavy downpours are likely to cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
