| Detailed Description | 11:04 AM NDT Thursday 18 April 2024 Special Weather Statement in effect for: St. John''s and vicinity A combination of snow and rain is expected, along with gusty winds. Locations: areas from Terra Nova to St. John''s and vicinity. Time span: this afternoon into Friday morning. Total snowfall: 2 to 5 cm, with locally higher amounts possible. Total rainfall: 10 to 20 mm. Maximum wind gusts: northerly 60 km/h, except 80 along parts of the coast. Remarks: A period of accumulating snow is expected this afternoon, especially over elevated terrain. Precipitation along the coast may remain as rain which could impact snowfall accumulations. All areas will transition to rain early this evening as temperatures rise above zero. Brief ice pellets may occur over some areas during the changeover. The timing of the snow appears likely to coincide with rush hour traffic this afternoon. Driving conditions may deteriorate quickly as snow begins to accumulate and only partially melts on roads and other surfaces.
