Brief Description Hydrologic Outlook
Detailed Description Higher Water Levels to Continue Through Monday. Remaining snowpack between the 8,000 and 10,000 foot elevation will continue to melt through Monday. However, temperatures Sunday and Monday will cool west of the Continental Divide, which will slow snowmelt. East of the Divide, the remaining snow is mainly confined to elevations above 9,000 feet. Above normal temperatures will continue through Monday east of the Continental Divide and an active snowmelt will continue. Conditions will be mostly dry Sunday and Monday with very few showers and thunderstorms expected. Therefore, rain falling on the snowpack does not pose a significant problem. The greatest concern will be across western Wyoming where the best snowpack remains. The river stages at both Pacific Creek near Moran and the Gros Ventre River at Kelly will generally remain between about 7.5 and 7.8 feet. Flood stage is 8 feet at both locations. The Green River at La Barge is forecast to climb to near action stage of 8.0 feet by Wednesday of the upcoming week. Other areas of concern include the upper Wind River from Dubois to Crowheart. River levels are expected to be at or just below action stage and the river is not expected to reach flood stage. Similarly, both Tensleep Creek near Tensleep and Medicine Lodge Creek near Hyattville will hover around or just below action stage of 3.5 feet. Remember, during active snowmelt runoff, mountain and foothill creeks flow highest from late evening through early morning. Recreationists should stay away from these cold, fast-moving streams and avoid camping near any waterway. Do not attempt to cross a creek or stream on foot as the power of the water will easily carry you downstream.
