| Detailed Description | 11:40 AM MDT Tuesday 17 September 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Cypress Co. near Suffield and Hwy 879 At 11:39 AM MDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a cluster of severe thunderstorms capable of producing strong wind gusts, pea to dime size hail and torrential rain. This cluster of thunderstorms is located 20 km west of Ralston and is nearly stationary. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Heavy downpours are likely to cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Fast-moving water across a road can sweep a vehicle away. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Avoid driving through water on roads. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. Thunderstorms will continue to develop this morning, some of which may be severe. Additional severe weather will be possible this afternoon. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
