10:28 PM EDT Thursday 19 September 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Pickle Lake - Cat Lake At 9:28 PM CDT (10:28 p.m. EDT), Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing very strong wind gusts and heavy rain. This line of severe thunderstorms is located from 15 kilometres east of Gitche Lake to 15 kilometres north of St. Raphael Lake, moving northeast at 70 km/h. Hazard: 100 km/h wind gusts Locations impacted include: Maxim Lake, Dorothy Lake, Fry Lake, Blackstone Lake and Dobie Lake. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
