| Detailed Description | Strong northwesterly winds aloft will persist over Kodiak Island through late Sunday. These winds are resuspending ash from the 1912 Katmai- Novarupta eruption, causing haze and trace amounts of ash accumulation. The villages of Karluk and Larsen Bay are most likely to be impacted. Those with respiratory ailments in these areas are encouraged to avoid or reduce outdoor activity to avoid inhaling the ash. Those in sensitive groups and with respiratory ailments are encouraged to avoid or significantly reduce time outdoors Saturday through Sunday to reduce the amount of ash inhaled. The winds will diminish by Sunday evening, which should cause the ash to settle out of the atmosphere. |
