Brief Description Special Weather Statement
Detailed Description Snow, Moderate Rain, and Rising Freezing Levels. When: Today and Monday. Where: West Kootenay, Kootenay Lake, Arrow Lakes - Slocan Lake, Highway 3 - Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass. Potential impacts: - Messy road conditions due to rain on snow. - Water pooling and localized flooding due to moderate rainfall accumulation and snow melting. - Snow melting will continue on Tuesday and Wednesday due to freezing levels further rising to 2500 to 3000 metres. Additional information: A two-day weather system is expected to move to southern B.C. today and Monday. Snow or wet snow will start to fall near the valley bottom this morning, then snow will change to rain as the warmer airmass arrives today. Snow levels are rising to 1000 metres by this afternoon. Snow levels will rise to 1700 metres by Monday morning, then to 2000 metres by Monday afternoon. For Highway 3 - Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass, snowfall accumulations may reach 15 to 20 cm by tonight. Rain on snow will likely give messy road conditions on Monday. For the towns in West Kootenay, Kootenay Lake, and Arrow Lakes - Slocan Lake regions, up to 5 cm of snowfall accumulations are expected before snow changes to rain. Total rainfall accumulations may reach 15 to 30 mm by Monday night. A clearing trend is likely on Tuesday and Wednesday as a ridge of high pressure builds. Freezing levels will further rise to 2500 to 3000 metres. Mountain snow melting may give rise to more water pooling and localized flooding. ### Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.
