Brief Description Special Weather Statement
Detailed Description A strong frontal system will bring an increase in winds across Turnagain Arm and higher elevations, including the Anchorage Hillside and Upper Eagle River. While winds are finally beginning to increase this afternoon, expectations are for the peak winds to be less than previously forecast. Currently expect sustained winds of 20 to 35 mph with potential for gusts of 45 to 55 mph, though isolated higher gusts will also be possible at the higher elevations. The peak of the strongest winds is expected to occur this evening through 11 PM tonight. People are urged to secure loose objects that could be blown around or damaged by the wind. Prepare for the possibility of power outages.
