10:28 PM EDT Thursday 19 September 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Sioux Lookout - Eastern Lac Seul At 9:28 PM CDT (10:28 p.m. EDT), Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing very strong wind gusts and heavy rain. This line of severe thunderstorms is located from 15 kilometres east of Gitche Lake to 15 kilometres north of St. Raphael Lake, moving northeast at 70 km/h. Hazard: 100 km/h wind gusts Locations impacted include: Maxim Lake, Dorothy Lake, Fry Lake, Blackstone Lake and Dobie Lake. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Discussion: Thunderstorms moving through the area may be severe. This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation. Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. In the event of a tornado, or if a tornado warning is issued for your area, it is recommended you take the following actions: Go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows, such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell or interior closet. Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers and other temporary or free-standing shelter, and move to a strong building if you can.
