11:45 PM EDT Monday 24 June 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Pickle Lake - Cat Lake At 10:44 PM CDT (11:44 p.m. EDT), Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a cluster of severe thunderstorms capable of producing strong wind gusts and toonie to ping pong ball size hail. This cluster of severe thunderstorm is located near Lansdowne House, moving northeast at 50 km/h. Hazard: Toonie to ping pong ball size hail and 90 km/h wind gusts. Locations impacted include: Fort Hope, Albany River Provincial Park, Otoskwin-Attawapiskat River Provincial , Winisk River Provincial Park, Webequie, Keezhik Lake, Ozhiski Lake, Petawanga Lake, Machawaian Lake, Peninsular Lake, Eabamet Lake, Lansdowne House, Reynolds Lake, Beteau Lake, Fishtrap Lake, Streatfeild Lake, Kapiskau Lake and Missisa Lake. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Watches 10:25 PM EDT Monday 24 June 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Pickle Lake - Cat Lake Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts and damaging hail. Hazards: Wind gusts up to 90 km/h. Nickel to golf ball size hail. Risk of a tornado. Timing: Continuing this evening. Discussion: Thunderstorms will move eastward across northwestern Ontario this evening. These thunderstorms have the potential to become severe, with wind and hail being the most likely hazards. Very large hail can damage property, break windows, dent vehicles and cause serious injury. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year.
