| Detailed Description | 8:56 AM EDT Sunday 14 July 2024 Heat Warning in effect for: Temiskaming Shores - Temagami A heat event will persist through today. Daytime highs are expected to be near 29 degrees Celsius with humidex values of up to 36. There will be little relief at night as minimum temperatures of 18 degrees Celsius are expected. A cooler airmass will arrive on Monday. Extreme heat can affect everyone?s health. Drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration. Reduce your heat risk. Schedule outdoor activities during the coolest parts of the day. Never leave people, particularly children, or pets inside a parked vehicle. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. Watches 2:17 PM EDT Sunday 14 July 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Temiskaming Shores - Temagami Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and large hail. Hazards: Up to ping pong ball sized hail. Wind gusts near 90 km/h. Timing: This afternoon into early this evening. Discussion: Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop north of Lake Superior and sweep across northeastern Ontario today. Thunderstorm intensity is dependent on the amount that the clouds clear today. The strongest thunderstorms that develop may be capable of producing ping pong ball sized hail and wind gusts of 90 km/h Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Locally heavy rain is also possible. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
