| Detailed Description | 3:11 PM EDT Tuesday 27 August 2024 Rainfall Warning in effect for: Ville-Marie area Rain, at times heavy, is expected. Rainfall amounts near 50 millimetres are expected. However, rainfall amounts could reach up to 75 millimetres locally if several thunderstorms are crossing the same areas. Duration: - Témiscamingue: until late this evening. - Rés. faunique de La Vérendrye: from late this afternoon to near midnight. - Pontiac: from early this evening to early Wednesday morning. The rain may also increase the flow and level of some streams and rivers. Moreover, significant ponding of water is possible on roads and inland. Heavy rainfall in combination with other weather factors, such as hail, wind and lightning will make outdoor activities unsafe. Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected. Watches 3:03 PM EDT Tuesday 27 August 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Ville-Marie area This afternoon and this evening, conditions will be favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain. Rainfall amounts of up to 50 millimetres are generally expected. However, total rainfall amounts could reach 75 millimetres locally if several thunderstorms are crossing the same areas. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
