Brief Description SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH
Detailed Description 4:19 PM NDT Wednesday 31 July 2024 Heat Warning in effect for: Bay of Exploits Hot and humid weather continues. Time span: ending Thursday night. Maximum daytime temperatures: 28 to 31 degrees Celsius (Humidex 34 to 38). Minimum overnight temperatures: 18 to 21 degrees Celsius. Locations: central, northeastern, and eastern Newfoundland. Remarks: The warmest temperatures will continue to be experienced inland and where winds blow off the land, while cooler conditions are expected where winds blow onshore and along the immediate coastline. Little relief can be expected at night with elevated overnight temperatures. Extreme heat can affect everyone?s health. The health risks are greater for older adults, infants and young children, pregnant people, people with physical and/or mental illnesses, and people with disabilities or mobility issues. Drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration. Never leave people, particularly children, or pets inside a parked vehicle. Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion. Please call HealthLine 811 for advice on health risks, symptoms and precautions associated with heat. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to NLstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #NLwx .
