| Detailed Description | * WHAT. The potential exists for flash flooding from excessive rainfall, especially on and near the Hermits Peak/Calf Canyon burn areas. * WHERE. Portions of north central and northeast New Mexico, including the following areas, in north central New Mexico, East Slopes Sangre de Cristo Mountains and Southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains. In northeast New Mexico, Northeast Highlands including Las Vegas. * WHEN. Until 6 PM MDT this evening. * IMPACTS. Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Low-water crossings may be flooded. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS. - Thunderstorms will develop over the Sangre De Cristo Mountains this afternoon and spread slowly eastward over the adjacent highlands. These storms will be capable of producing locally heavy rainfall, especially during late afternoon and evening. Locations where the ground is already saturated from heavy rain that fell Sunday and Sunday night will be especially susceptible to flash flooding late this afternoon and evening. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood |
