| Detailed Description | 8:52 PM EDT Saturday 24 August 2024 Heat Warning in effect for: Pikangikum - Poplar Hill - MacDowell Heat event will continue through Sunday. Maximum temperatures are expected to be near 30 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures will be near 18 degrees Celsius. Humidex values will range from 34 to 37. Cooler temperatures are expected Sunday night. Extreme heat can affect everyone?s health. The health risks are greater for older adults, infants and young children, pregnant people, people with physical and/or mental illnesses, and people with disabilities or mobility issues. Drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration. Never leave people, particularly children, or pets inside a parked vehicle. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. Watches 12:11 AM EDT Sunday 25 August 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Pikangikum - Poplar Hill - MacDowell Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain. Hazards: Wind gusts up to 90 km/h. Large hail up to nickel size. Locally heavy rainfall in excess of 50 mm. Timing: Tonight. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
