5:08 PM EDT Saturday 27 July 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Fort Hope - Lansdowne House - Ogoki At 4:08 PM CDT (5:08 p.m. EDT), Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a dangerous thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts and up to golf ball size hail. Very large hail can damage property, break windows, dent vehicles and cause serious injury. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. For more information: ontario.ca/page/be-prepared-emergency . 3:35 PM EDT Saturday 27 July 2024 Heat Warning in effect for: Fort Hope - Lansdowne House - Ogoki A heat event continues into Sunday. Maximum daytime temperatures of near 30 degrees Celsius are expected, with humidex values approaching 37. Overnight minimum temperatures will be 17 to 20 degrees Celsius. There is a possibility that showers and thunderstorms may keep maximum daytime temperatures a few degrees cooler on Sunday for parts of northwestern Ontario. At this time, a cooler and less humid airmass is expected to arrive Sunday night. Extreme heat can affect everyone?s health. The health risks are greater for older adults, infants and young children, pregnant people, people with physical and/or mental illnesses, and people with disabilities or mobility issues. Watches 2:36 PM EDT Saturday 27 July 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Fort Hope - Lansdowne House - Ogoki Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, damaging hail and heavy rain. Hazards: Strong wind gusts up to 90 km/h. Toonie sized hail. Timing: This afternoon into this evening. Discussion: Thunderstorms developing this afternoon may become severe. Very large hail can damage property, break windows, dent vehicles and cause serious injury. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
