| Detailed Description | 3:00 PM EDT Wednesday 31 July 2024 Heat Warning in effect for: Ear Falls - Perrault Falls - Western Lac Seul A heat event will continue through Thursday. A hot and humid airmass is over northwestern Ontario. Maximum daytime temperatures of 29 to 31 degrees Celsius are expected, with humidex values reaching 36 or higher. Overnight minimum temperatures will be 18 to 19 degrees Celsius. A cooler airmass is currently expected to arrive Thursday night. Extreme heat can affect everyone?s health. The health risks are greater for older adults, infants and young children, pregnant people, people with physical and/or mental illnesses, and people with disabilities or mobility issues. Drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration. Never leave people, particularly children, or pets inside a parked vehicle. Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion. Hazards: Strong wind gusts up to 90 km/h Nickel to toonie size hail Heavy downpours Timing: This afternoon and evening. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
