HEAT WARNING |
Detailed Description |
10:56 AM NDT Monday 29 July 2024 Heat Warning in effect for: Bonavista North Hot and humid weather is expected to continue. Time span: continuing until Thursday. Maximum daytime temperatures: 28 to 32 degrees Celsius (Humidex 33 to 38). Minimum overnight temperatures: 19 to 21 degrees Celsius. Locations: central, northeastern, and parts of eastern Newfoundland. Remarks: The warmest temperatures will be experienced inland and where winds blow off the land, while cooler conditions are expected where winds blow onshore and along the immediate coastline. Little relief can be expected at night with elevated overnight temperatures. Current indications suggest that temperatures may reach heat warning criteria for only parts of northeastern Newfoundland on Wednesday. However, hot and humid conditions will return to all areas again on Thursday. Extreme heat can affect everyone?s health. Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions. If you are in an overheated area, seek a cool place such as a tree-shaded area, splash pad, misting station, or air-conditioned spot like a public building. Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion. Please call HealthLine 811 for advice on health risks, symptoms and precautions associated with heat. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to NLstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #NLwx .
