4:13 PM EDT Thursday 5 September 2024 Special Weather Statement in effect for: Forillon National Park - Gaspé area Possibility of heavy rain and winds on Saturday with a risk of storm surge. Time frame : from noon Saturday to Saturday evening. Location: the Eastern Gaspésie Hazards: Significant rainfall amounts could affect the region in a short time period, accompanied by very strong easterly winds. At high tide late Saturday, these winds could cause breaking sea conditions. Consider modifying any non-essential travel plans. Heavy rain can cause flash flooding and ponding on roads. Bridges, culverts and people can be swept away by rapidly rising rivers and streams. Be sure to exercise caution. The combination of large waves and storm surge could result in damage to the shoreline and property along the coast. If you live along the coast, make sure you protect your belongings and remove or secure bulky objects on the ground to prevent them from being thrown or carried away by the waves and posing a danger. Context: a low-pressure system with tropical moisture off the Carolinas will cross the Gulf of St. Lawrence late Saturday.
