| Detailed Description | 12:03 PM CDT Saturday 24 August 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: R.M. of Dauphin incl. Sifton and Valley River Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorm capable of producing rainfall in excess of 75 mm. At 12:00 PM CDT Doppler RADAR indicated that this line of severe thunderstorms stretched from 10 km north of Gilbert Plains to Sifton and was nearly stationary. Locations impacted include: Venlaw, Sifton. Fast-moving water across a road can sweep a vehicle away. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Sifton and Valley River Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, damaging hail and torrential rain. Thunderstorms continue across southwest Manitoba. Some of these thunderstorms will be severe. Heavy rain and large hail are the prevailing threats into the morning hours. Very large hail can damage property, break windows, dent vehicles and cause serious injury. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
