| Detailed Description | 4:00 PM ADT Tuesday 9 July 2024 Heat Warning in effect for: Cartwright to Black Tickle Time span: ending this evening. Locations: southeastern Labrador. Extreme heat can affect everyone?s health. Reduce your heat risk. Schedule outdoor activities during the coolest parts of the day. Limit direct sun exposure. Shade yourself by wearing a wide-brimmed, breathable hat and/or an umbrella. Never leave people, particularly children, or pets inside a parked vehicle. Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion. Please call HealthLine 811 for advice on health risks, symptoms and precautions associated with heat. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. Issued by Environment Canada and the Department of Health and Community Services of Newfoundland and Labrador Watches 5:55 PM ADT Tuesday 9 July 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Cartwright to Black Tickle Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing heavy rain. Potential rainfall rates: 25 mm per hour or higher. Locations: Eagle River, Cartwright to Black Tickle, and Norman Bay to Lodge Bay (north of Port Hope Simpson) Time span: until midnight. Remarks: A cluster of thunderstorms approaching from the southwest could produce a short period of localized downpours over some areas. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
