| Detailed Description | 3:53 PM CDT Monday 16 September 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Mun. of Emerson-Franklin incl. Roseau River Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms. At 3:54 PM CDT Doppler RADAR indicated that this line of severe thunderstorms stretched from St. Pierre Jolys southward to the international border and was moving toward the east at 60 km/h. Threats: - wind gusts in excess of 100 km/h - quarter-sized hail Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Watches 12:37 PM CDT Monday 16 September 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Mun. of Emerson-Franklin incl. Roseau River Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms this afternoon and this evening over parts of southern Manitoba. The main threats from these severe thunderstorms will be: - rainfall in excess of 50 mm - wind gusts in excess of 90 km/h - hail to the size of golf balls - a tornado possible Thunderstorms will move into Ontario this evening. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
