Brief Description SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT
Detailed Description 2:02 PM EDT Saturday 29 June 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Timmins - Cochrane - Iroquois Falls At 2:01 PM EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing very strong wind gusts. This line of severe thunderstorms is located from 9 kilometres south of Little Missinaibi Lake to Harty, moving east at 75 km/h. Hazard: 90 km/h wind gusts. Locations impacted include: Kapuskasing, Chapleau-Nemegosenda River Provincial Park, Ivanhoe Lake Provincial Park, Foleyet and Groundhog River Waterway Provincial Park. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Hail and locally heavy rain are also possible. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Watches 1:25 PM EDT Saturday 29 June 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Timmins - Cochrane - Iroquois Falls Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and large hail. Hazards: Wind gusts near 90 km/h. Up to toonie sized hail. Timing: This afternoon into this evening. Discussion: Thunderstorm development is expected today northeast and east of Lake Superior. Some of these thunderstorms may becoming severe with strong wind gusts and hail as the primary threats. The strength of these thunderstorms is highly dependent on how much clearing of clouds takes place during the day. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Locally heavy rain is also possible. Statements 10:14 AM EDT Saturday 29 June 2024 Special Weather Statement in effect for: Timmins - Cochrane - Iroquois Falls Significant rainfall continues today. Hazard: Total rainfall amounts of 30 to 45 mm. Locally higher amounts in thunderstorms are possible. Timing: Through this evening. Discussion: Showers, heavy at times, are expected to continue over parts of northeastern Ontario today. Embedded thunderstorms could give locally higher amounts. Showers will taper off this evening from west to east. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.
