| Detailed Description | 9:17 PM EDT Wednesday 22 May 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Shelburne - Mansfield - Northern Dufferin County Orangeville - Grand Valley - Southern Dufferin County At 9:17 PM EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a cluster of severe thunderstorms capable of producing strong wind gusts and up to ping pong ball size hail. This cluster of severe thunderstorms is located 5 kilometres southeast of Grand Valley, moving northeast at 60 km/h. Hazard: Ping pong ball size hail and 100 km/h wind gusts. A tornado is also possible. Locations impacted include: Orangeville, Grand Valley, Shelburne, Boyne Valley Provincial Park, Mono Cliffs Provincial Park, Mono Centre, Mansfield, Forks of the Credit Provincial Park, Colbeck, Orton, Marsville, Laurel, Hillsburgh, Violet Hill, Alton, Woodside and Caledon Village. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Hazards: 90 km/h wind gusts Up to toonie sized hail Timing: This evening. Discussion: Thunderstorms will develop along a cold front that will move through the province this evening. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Water-related activities may be unsafe due to violent and sudden gusts of wind over bodies of water.
