| Detailed Description | * WHAT. Significant coastal flooding expected. * WHERE. Southern Seward Peninsula Coast. * WHEN. From 4 PM this afternoon to 7 AM AKDT Wednesday. * IMPACTS. Low lying property including homes, businesses, and some critical infrastructure will be inundated. Some shoreline erosion may occur. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS. For Nome, water levels are expected to rise 5 to 6 feet above the normal high tide line. Low-lying homes in the Belmont subdivision may be impacted. Standing water is expected in the port area. For Golovin, the water level is expected to be 8 to 11 feet above the normal high tide line. Waves may break over the natural berm on the beach side off town. Standing water may impact the lowest residences in town. The old airstrip will be flooding. Water will rise this afternoon, peak late Monday night and early Tuesday morning, and remain elevated through Wednesday. |
