8:43 PM PDT Monday 22 July 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Cariboo - south including Williams Lake At 8:42 PM PDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking an area of severe thunderstorms capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain. An area of thunderstorms is currently east of Highway 97. These storms are moving northwards and may affect the communities of Horsefly, Black Creek, Big Lake Ranch, and Likely. Heavy downpours are likely to cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
