Brief Description SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH
Detailed Description 5:08 PM EDT Wednesday 31 July 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Pickle Lake - Cat Lake At 4:08 PM CDT (5:08 p.m. EDT), Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a cluster of severe thunderstorms capable of producing strong wind gusts, up to toonie size hail and heavy rain. This cluster of severe thunderstorms is located from 20 kilometres west of Horseshoe Lake to Badesdawa Lake, moving east at 40 km/h. Hazard: 90 km/h wind gusts and nickel size to toonie hail. Locations impacted include: Pipestone River Provincial Park, Horseshoe Lake, Kitchenham Lake, Chilton Lake, Barrigar Lake, Menako Lakes, Obustiga Lake, Forester Lake, Spruce Lakes, Badesdawa Lake, Totogan Lake, Keezhik Lake, Kabania Lake and Ozhiski Lake. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. A hot and humid airmass is over northwestern Ontario. Maximum daytime temperatures of 29 to 31 degrees Celsius are expected, with humidex values reaching 36 or higher. Overnight minimum temperatures will be 18 to 19 degrees Celsius. A cooler airmass is currently expected to arrive Thursday night. Extreme heat can affect everyone?s health. The health risks are greater for older adults, infants and young children, pregnant people, people with physical and/or mental illnesses, and people with disabilities or mobility issues. Drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration. Never leave people, particularly children, or pets inside a parked vehicle. Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
